Services and Fees

This program can be a very effective and powerful means of weight loss.  Patients may expect to lose between 7-12 pounds on this program per month.  Some patients may lose more or less depending on individual dietary and exercise performance.  As a result, initial considerations and regular follow-up are important.

The decisions for therapy are based on recommendations by the physician with agreement by the client.  These recommendations are based on a physician’s careful medical history, physical examination and diagnostic examinations by lab/blood work and EKG.  Patients must meet a minimum requirement of being overweight by having a BMI (body mass index) of 25 or greater or a body fat percentage that is elevated. (For females: >25%, for males >20%)

What to expect on your first visit...

Your first visit to ThinRx will include an initial consultation and physical examination.  The fee for this is $20.  The client and the physician will discuss medical history, dietary habits and exercise habits and a limited examination will be performed.  All of your experience with us is one-on-one.  We believe in protecting your privacy.

If you come in with intent to start, then we will also perform an EKG which is $25.  (Be sure to wear loose-fitting clothes and avoid dresses or one-piece outfits when coming in for the EKG.)

If you decide that you would like to enter into the program after the initial consultation, lab workup will be needed.  The fee for these services will be $65. Laboratory workup required includes the following:

  • Basic Metabolic Profile (also known as Chem-8)
  • Hepatic Function Panel (also known as Liver Function Tests)
  • Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH)

(Note: If a patient had the required lab work and EKG performed within the previous 60 days and brings in that information, then the lab fee will be waived.  Also, that patient will be able to start the program without making a second visit.)

What to expect on your second visit...

After lab results are returned, you will follow-up with us for a Program Initiation Appointment (when therapy will be initiated) within as little as one or two days after the initial consultation.

At this appointment, you will receive a report regarding your laboratory finding and your EKG findings.  You will then be educated on weight loss medications including their history, effects and side-effects and what you should expect.  Depending on your individual circumstance, you may be advised to see our dietitian, but that decision is solely yours to make.  The Program Initiation Appointment fee is $40.  Weight loss medication will be dispensed from the office at a cost of $45.

Dietitian fee is $40 for those advised to see the dietitian.  Our services for dietetics are contracted, and this fee amount is certainly among the best in the profession.)

TOTAL Second visit charge is usually $85 (excluding dietitian fee).

Follow up appointments...

The patient will follow-up with the physician every 4 weeks while taking weight loss medicine.  The medication will be dispensed from our office only at follow-up appointments.  Total fee for appointment and medication will generally be $105.

ThinRx believes that it is important for patients who are taking weight loss medication to be able to stay in contact.  If the patient has any problems, the physician will be able to be contacted either by phone or by email to assist.

Pre-surgical Evaluation

If it has been recommended by a patient’s primary care physician that a patient be sent to a bariatric surgeon for consideration for gastric bypass, lap band procedure or gastric sleeve procedure, pre-surgical evaluation may be needed depending on a patient’s insurance requirements.  These services are offered by referral from a bariatric surgeon for a nominal fee.

The fee for a 6 month program of pre-surgical evaluation is $600 ($100 per month).  This fee includes ongoing physician evaluation, dietary consultation, monitoring of weight and BMI and correspondence between insurance companies and the bariatric surgeon.  If certain insurance companies require longer intervals of evaluation, then the fee will extend prorated to that time-frame.

Methods of Payment

Payment for services is to be rendered in full at the time of service.  The client is expected to have means of payment when coming into the office.

Payments may be made in cash, personal check, cashier’s check or credit card.  Money orders will not be accepted.  Visa, MasterCard and Discover are all accepted.  A fee for a returned check will be made in the case of insufficient funds.
